At London Nightline, we are proud to be a key partner in The Stay Project, a bold seven-year, city-wide initiative committed to supporting those who work on the frontline of suicide prevention across London.
London Nightline was set up to reduce student suicides, and we have been working alongside universities, student unions and halls of residences to achieve this goal since the organisation was founded in 1971. Supporting others through crisis can take a significant emotional toll. Many frontline professionals experience burnout, fatigue and isolation, often without sufficient support.
That is why, alongside our partner charities CB Plus, Listening Ear (Amparo), New Citizens Gateway and Grassroots Suicide Prevention, we have created the Stay Project. Our work has taught us how essential it is not just to provide crisis listening and peer support, but also to equip student-facing staff and volunteers with the knowledge, tools, and self-care practices that help prevent crisis, respond well, and stay well themselves.
London Nightline has been offering a listening ear to students for over 50 years. Our high quality training is now available as a tailored session for university or SU staff, so that every member of the team is fully prepared to support students’ wellbeing with whatever they are going through.
● Using empathy and active listening so you always know what to say.
● Being calm and present when a student is in crisis or discussing suicidal thoughts.
● Managing your own wellbeing when supporting others
