Welcome to a New Academic Year in London

September 1, 2026

As September arrives, we'd like to welcome both new and returning students to universities across London.

For those who’ve got their results and are starting their studies, this can be a time of excitement, uncertainty, opportunity, and change. Whether you've moved thousands of miles or just across the city, you're likely to be adjusting to new surroundings, new routines, and new people.

Returning students may be settling back into patterns of study, taking on new academic challenges, moving house, and even beginning to think about what comes next after university. Whatever stage you're at, student life can bring both opportunities and pressures, and it's important to know that support is available.

London Nightline reopens after the summer break from 14th September and is here from 6pm to 8am every night of term, offering anonymous and non-judgemental support from fellow students. As a service run by students, for students, we know that university life isn't always straightforward and that sometimes it helps to talk things through with someone else who gets it. Whether you're feeling homesick, stressed about your course, worried about relationships, struggling with your mental health, or simply want someone to listen, we're here for whatever is on your mind. We're also looking forward to meeting many of you at freshers' fairs and welcome events across London in the coming weeks.

Could you volunteer?

If you're looking to get involved with your community this year, we're also currently recruiting student volunteers. Students have been runningthe Nightline for 55 years, providing vital overnight support to their peers when other sources are unavailable. Volunteering is a fantastic way to meet students from universities across London while gaining valuable listening, communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. No experience is needed, as full training is provided in our October and February training events.

We hope you have a great start to the academic year. And remember, whatever is on your mind, London Nightline is here when you need us.
