As the year comes to an end and most universities and students enjoy a well-deserved summer break, we are pleased to share London Nightline’s annual report. Covering the 2024-25 academic year, it talks through our helpline statistics, insights from student callers, volunteering programme highlights, and our wider mental health advocacy including the international progress of Nightline Europe.
We are there for topics big and small – often as first port of call for students who feel stressed about university pressure and interpersonal relationships. But notably for another year, the proportion of calls we have taken about mental health has risen again, rising to one-third of all conversations.
“Thank you for talking, it's really helped and I can sleep now. I feel much more measured about the situation now. I'm glad you were there, you have been so nice.” (anonymous caller)
Nightline’s offer of overnight non-judgemental peer support is unique, and the report also shines a light on the listening volunteers who dedicate their nights to be there anonymously for other students.
Nightline has been a lifeline for thousands since London Nightline’s creation in 1971, and we pledge to keep being a listening ear for students into our upcoming 55th year and beyond. We’d like to take a moment to thank you our partners for their ongoing support, and look forward to more progress together next year.
