Volunteering for London Nightline is a very worthwhile and challenging experience, a chance to give something back to the student community and to learn invaluable skills that will be of benefit to you throughout your life. Volunteering for Nightline is a lot of fun too, and we have a wide variety of social activities including a subsidised retreat weekend and a big end of year party. Furthermore, as London Nightline is partly run by its volunteers there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in all aspects of the organisation's work from publicity and fund raising to training and organising social events; all of which look good on your CV!

“Volunteering for Nightline has made a huge difference to my time as a student in London. Not only have I learnt invaluable skills as a volunteer, but I have also met the most amazing people along the way who I know will be friends for life. Importantly I have learnt alot about myself - that I can cope with night shifts, think on my feet at 4am and even prepare even the most nervous of new volunteers to pick up that ringing phone on their first shift...I would recommend the training process to students who want to put something back into the student community, and (as it turned out for me) get a great deal back in return.”

"Being a Nightline volunteer has been a fantastic opportunity which I have felt privileged to undertake. The training that you carry out whilst being a volunteer equips you with some fundamental skills that you can use not only on duty but with your friends and family too. Listening is such an invaluable skill that so many people take for granted but Nightline has taught me recognize and use this skill to its full potential. Helping other students can be so rewarding, as well looking great on your CV. Although sometimes volunteering for Nightline can be quite difficult emotionally, it has also provided me with a lot of fun memories and great friends. I would recommend our service to anyone who needs support and also to anyone who is looking for a worthwhile volunteering experience. "

"I had always wanted to volunteer for Nightline, but didn’t think I’d be able to spare the time around university work. But I finally decided I needed more in my life than work, so volunteered in my final year. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made – Nightline just enhanced my whole university experience. The training process was fascinating, I learnt so much that was transferable to everyday life, and which I could, and did, apply in my own relationships. I went on to become a Training Officer because I felt strongly about the importance of teaching these valuable skills. I felt prepared and confident when I started my duties, and the support structure within Nightline is incredible. I made some of my best friends at university through Nightline, and I only wish I’d volunteered sooner!
